A galaxy once ravaged by war now stands at an uneasy peace under the iron grip of the Triumvirate spearheaded Gaius Julius Caesar, the King of Humanity. Caesar’s reign may be strong, but one does not conquer hundreds of worlds without making a few enemies along the way. His queen, Elysande Bodewin, feels that even being the second most powerful person in the kingdom undervalues her greatest potential, so when she uncovers a conspiracy to overthrow her husband, the prospects may be too tempting to turn down.

The Paladins, a once revered faction of magic-users who served as justiciars and diplomats throughout the galaxy, are nearly extinct after losing a bloody war to Caesar. Kent Kentoshi, a mage and refugee expecting at any day to meet his end at the hands of the Triumvirate, suddenly finds a change in fate when an old mentor comes to visit. A small group of outlaw Paladins still aim to defy Caesar, and they ask Kent to find and rescue the lost children of the Archmage. But the worlds are cold and brutal, and so neither offspring of the greatest Paladin to ever live may fit the “Chosen One” archetype that they so desperately need.
